Where the palmitos and cucumbers come from “Altoé” is a family-owned small-scale industry in the outbounds of Brasília (ca. 40 km) in Tabatinga. They cultivate the pupunha palm tree and process palmitos – the only palmito production in the whole central Brasil region. Altoé started its business 6 years ago and is – since then – slowly but steadily increasing the production scale and product diversity: palmitos as entire pieces, slices, cubes and sticks. They recently started to also process cucumbers: pepinos and mini-pepinos from their own cultivation. HOM-ing organizes Rural Tourism – excursions to rural production sites like Altoé.
